Under the auspices of the Ministry of Municipalities and Rural Affairs and in presence of H.E. Tarek bin Abdulaziz Alfares, Mayor of Riyadh Region, Al Yamamah University Engineering Forum 2019 entitled, “Engineering Role in Economic Transformation and Sustainable Development in Light of Vision 2030” was opened on 10th of March 2019. The forum lasted for two days at Sheikh Khalid Alkhudair Hall.
The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Khalid Mohammed Alkhudair, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Hussam Ramadan, President of Al Yamamah University, Dr. Waleed Abanmi, Vice-President of Al Yamamah University and a large number of intellectuals and professionals in the fields of architecture and engineering. The first day of the forum started with a welcoming speech by Prof. Ramadan, who warmly greeted all the speakers, participants and attendants.
The first session of the first day was presented by Prof. Waldemar Karawowsk and Prof. Ahmad Elshennawy form the University of Central Florida, who discussed the human dimensions of artificial intelligence and Vision 2030.
The second session dealt with mega urban development projects and the role they play in enhancing national economy and was delivered by Mr. Mark Phillpot, Project Director, Bechtel. After that, Dr. Mamdouh Najjar, VP National Technology Officer, Microsoft Arabia gave a presentation entitled “Empowering Cities & Citizens” in the third session.
The day ended with a governmental panel discussion and honoring the speakers for their excellent efforts in delivering such informative sessions.
The second day of the forum started with a valuable speech from Dr. Osama Abdu, CEO Metro Jeddah. Then, Dr. kamal Toumi, MIT talked about “Envisioning A Great City” in the second session. The third session was by Dr. Ahmed Shabbanah, IBM KSA where he talked about NEOM. Lastly, the university ended the forum by a ceremony to honor all the participants and show great value of their efforts and enthusiasm in delivering such noteworthy sessions.
