Al Yamamah University Architecture Students Engage in Asir Local Architecture Workshop with King Khalid University

On October 10, 2024, architecture students from Yamamah University’s College of Engineering participated in a design workshop focused on the local architecture of the Asir region. Held at King Khalid University’s campus in Al-Faraa, the event was organized in collaboration with its College of Architecture and Planning. The workshop aimed to emphasize integrating local identity into contemporary designs while adhering to environmental and heritage standards. The workshop included discussions on Asir’s traditional architecture, highlighting sustainable design elements and their environmental integration. Students from both universities designed and presented projects inspired by Asir’s architectural style, blending traditional elements with modern innovations. This participation was part of a field trip for students of the “Architectural Design Studio 1” course, allowing them to explore the project site at Jabal Al-Soudah. The delegation, consisting of students and supervisors, also visited significant archaeological and historical sites in the Asir region, including Abu Sarrah Palaces, the historical palaces of Asir, and Jabal Al-Soudah. This initiative provided students with hands-on experience in design that preserves cultural heritage while promoting sustainable architecture. It also reinforced collaboration between Yamamah University and King Khalid University in fostering architectural innovation.
